Qualitative Data for Secondary Analysis Workshop

- When
- Thursday, October 22 at 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM ET
Secondary data — existing data you want to use that had been collected by someone else for their own research — can be a valuable resource for research, teaching and learning qualitative methods. Elevating Qualitative Research @ NC State (EQUAL) will host a workshop that will explore when, how and why to use existing qualitative data and when secondary analysis might not be the best fit for qualitative research. Lynette Hoelter, an archivist at the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), will lead the session. The workshop will cover the benefits and distinctive challenges of working with archived interviews, focus groups and other qualitative materials and offer a practical framework for evaluating qualitative datasets for research or methods training. It will highlight qualitative data available through ICPSR, a renowned data database for the social and behavioral sciences, and point participants toward additional qualitative data sources.
